Freedom in Christ frees us from religious practices unrelated to salvation

Galatians 5:1 Christ having made us gloriously free—stand fast and do not again be hampered with the yoke of slavery.

But, Jesus would not allow Peter to start a riot. Jesus told Peter to put his sword away. Rather than helping to foment a rebellion, Jesus indicated that those who use the sword would die by the sword.
