Freedom in Christ frees us from religious practices unrelated to salvation

Galatians 5:1 Christ having made us gloriously free—stand fast and do not again be hampered with the yoke of slavery.

Scripture indicates God was displeased with Israel and brought the neighboring nation of Assyria against them to punish them and hopefully bring about a correction.

Israel was besieged by Assyria starting around 730 BC. Assyria removed the people of Israel from their land and re-settled them over a period of time.

Latter, a similar fate occurred to the southern nation of Judah. Babylon besieged them and deported many of the leading people.

The deportations ended about 586 BC
