Jewish commentaries on the Law indicate that God “brought you—Israel—out of Egypt on the condition that you should receive the yoke of commandments; he who acknowledged the yoke of commandments acknowledges that I have brought Israel out of Egypt.” This was a yoke that the Jews gladly accepted because it showed them to be a special people to God.
