Our Freedom in Christ - Part 1

Freedom in Christ frees us from religious practices unrelated to salvation

Galatians 5:1 Christ having made us gloriously free—stand fast and do not again be hampered with the yoke of slavery.

The Old Covenant was an agreement between God and Israel. Specifically, God made the following offer to Israel through the agent, Moses:

"Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be mine own possession from among all peoples: for all the earth is mine: and ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation."

Moses conveyed this offer to the people. The people accepted the offer. And Moses gave notification of acceptance to God. That sealed the deal.

God then began to state the commandments that Israel should obey. He prefaced the first 10 commandments by identifying those who were a party to the agreement:

“I am Jehovah thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage…”

The commandments God was about to state pertained only to Israel.

The 10 commandments God was about to speak were laws for the children of Israel, not the Gentiles.
